UN to Call on Governments to legalise drugs

The UN may be about to call on the governments of all countries to end the "war on drugs" and decriminilise the use and possession of all illegal substances.

In an extraordinary post on his Virgin website, Richard Branson said he had been showed a report by the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) which dramatically changed the organisation's stance on drug control.

The gap between the people on the ground and the politicians in parliament couldn't be starker. A report in yesterday's Observer found offences relating to cannabis had fallen by a third since 2011 due to the police directing their limited resources on more important matters.

National Crime Agency - Stephen Lawrence enquiry

The National Crime Agency (NCA) can confirm its investigation into alleged police corruption during the original investigation into the murder of Stephen Lawrence.

The managed investigation for the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is being led by Roy McComb, NCA Deputy Director for Specialist Investigations.
